The Story Behind The Afcon 2012 Victory
What started like a quest to an impossible mission, saw a footballing team rise against all-odds, to become the continent’s champions, lifting the 2012 African Cup of Nations and taking it home. The team won the cup on the very soils of Gabon, where it had lost its legendary preceding team. The preceding team had tragically crashed and perished, abode an aeroplane that was flying them to the continental games on April 27, 1993.
In a turn of events after being labeled and categorized among the under dogs of the participating teams, the team kept winning in each group stage, propelled under the drive of the motto "Bola Na Lesa!” meaning Football with God. Kalusha Bwalya, who was then Football Association of Zambia President, in partnership with Herve Renard as head coach, led the team on a quest very few believed would be possible. Their drive and resolve paid off in goals, as their determination to win began to reveal a dream about to be achieved. This book, brings to you the personal journey of Christopher Katongo, who captained the national team from obscurity to international acclaim. This is the road to victory and a quick dive into the story of the skipper who wore shirt number 11 in reverence to his hero, Kalusha Bwalya.
